The Sloan/Pallotta Memorial Scholarship was established in 1991 to honor the lives of David Sloan and Nick Pallotta, two Hidden Valley High School students whose lives were tragically cut short in a plane crash while traveling to the Oregon coast. This scholarship serves as a tribute to their memory by supporting graduating seniors from HVHS who have participated in soccer for at least one season. It reflects the passion and dedication both young men had for the sport and encourages student-athletes to pursue their academic and personal goals beyond high school.
In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements, applicants are asked to submit an essay answering the question, “How have I positively inspired or impacted someone?“. This requirement underscores the values of leadership, kindness, and personal influence, aligning with the spirit of David and Nick’s legacy. By sharing their own stories of making a difference in someone’s life, students demonstrate the same qualities of compassion and encouragement that the scholarship seeks to honor. Through this opportunity, the Sloan/Pallotta Memorial Scholarship not only provides financial support but also fosters a culture of positive influence within the Hidden Valley High School community.
