What is considered a ‘Trade’?

A trade is a career that requires specialized skills, typically gained through vocational school or apprenticeships rather than 4-year degrees. To qualify for a trade job, you may need to earn an associate degree, attend a vocational school, or gain the required skills through an apprenticeship or hands-on experience. Sometimes this may include 2-year degree programs at a community college, though typically a degree is not a requirement for the certification or licensure in the specific trade field. Examples of trades can include, but are not limited to: electrician, carpenter, plumber, automotive tech, welding and fabrication, dental assistant, medical assistant, pharmacy tech, massage therapist, cosmetologist, veterinary tech, firefighter, tattoo artist, culinary artist, etc.

You will be asked for the following when you apply:

1. Basic Demographic Information
2. Household Financial Information
3. List of Activities (school, work, volunteer) you have participated in with dates and average hours
4. Contact information for 2 letters of recommendation (name and email address)
5. One short answer question (250 words each)
   • What are your specific educational plans and career goals and why? What inspires you to achieve them?
