Hidden Valley High School
Class of 2017

University: RCC
Major: Automotive Technology
Scholarships received from JCEF: I received the Sloan-Pallotta Memorial scholarship, College Dreams Evergreen Bank Scholarship, Knights of Columbus Valtakis Memorial scholarship, several College Dreams program scholarship, First Student Scholarship, Greater Grants Pass Rotary Club Scholarship and the Rip Rapose Memorial Scholarship.

Why RCC: It’s only 35 minutes away and close to my home. It’s cheaper, and they have the automotive program I want to study. It’s a good start in a small setting where I can experience what college is all about before moving on to a bigger one.

Experiences or persons influencing my major or career choice: I believe this program is a good choice since I like cars and like to fix things. I am actually about to get started on a job shadow this summer (2017).

Classes taken that set me on this career path: I’ve taken Algebra II and pre-calculus. The classes were interesting and I plan to keep going.

High School activities, clubs, or sports: I played Soccer, basketball, and participated in track and field events.

What I learned through sports participation: Teamwork is really important!

Planned college activities: I’d like to be in a hola club or any Latino club and play soccer since it’s my favorite sport.

Thanks to all of the JCEF and other community donors, I will be going to college this fall at RCC to study automotive technology. I plan to get my two year degree and then transfer to a four-year school to pursue an engineering degree. It’s my dream and my passion. Without the help of all of these scholarships, this next step wouldn’t be possible! I have no words to express how thankful I am. I only know that my future will be better for your generosity. I am eternally grateful!

JCEF is now Redwood Foundation for Education
