University: Rogue Community College
Major: Fire Science
What scholarships I received: Grants Pass Active Club, College Dreams, Grants Pass/Douglas County Association of Realtors, Jim Bottroff Memorial and Applegate P.T.S.G.
Why RCC: I chose this school for its Table Rock campus fire science program.
Experiences or persons influencing my major or career choice: I volunteered at our local fire station and have had plenty of training that has shown me what the job entails. I am very interested in pursuing it further.
Classes taken that set me on the path to pursue this career: One class that made me do some critical thinking was chemistry. I am interested in sciences and chemistry was one that made me do a lot of thinking and questioning which made it more enjoyable for me.
Volunteer or paid work that set me on this career path: I am also a volunteer at our local fire department and go to drill nights regularly.
High school activities, clubs or sports: I’ve been a part of FBLA, Josephine County Foundation, the golf and swim teams and National Honor Society.
What I learned through participation: Each of these different experiences has made me grow socially and helped me to understand the importance of good relationships.
Planned college activities: I hope to be a member of at least 2 different clubs or active groups in college. However, I’m keeping my options open to see what my college has to offer me.
Testimonial: I would like to say to all those who gave me this money to pursue a college education, thank you for making it possible for me and so many others to follow our dreams and make something of ourselves. Without you, our journey would be much more difficult, and for some, impossible. Thank you for you generosity, and know that it is being put to good use.
