- Award: One $1,500 award, renewable up to four years, totaling $6,000
- Eligibility: Graduating senior from Grants Pass High School
- Selection Criteria: Awarded to a student of promise who is entering the fields of English or History. Preference will be given to students who are in need of financial assistance but who are not receiving any valedictory, salutatory, athletic or business scholarship awards.
- Use of Funds: May be used at any accredited two- or four-year colleges. Scholarship checks are mailed directly to the recipients’ post-secondary education program. Scholarship funds may also be used to reimburse students for required books and school supplies with advanced approval.
- Renewal: Recipients may submit written renewal requests after July 1. Include an official transcript of college grades for academic year just completed and confirm registrations for the new year. Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by their institution to remain eligible for scholarship renewal.
- About the Scholarship: Established in 2011 from the combined estates of Charles B. Ruggless and Marian A. Ruggless, both individuals were former educators. Marian was a retired music teacher; Charles was a retired English professor. The first awards were made to two GPHS students in May of 2012. Earned income from both funds provides on-going annual renewable scholarships.
