  • Award: Variable
  • Eligibility: Graduating senior from Grants Pass High School that has participate in Orchestra
  • GPA: 2.0 and above
  • Selection Criteria: Student musicianship, leadership, cooperation, attitude and dedication to the orchestra.
  • Use of Funds: Scholarship checks are mailed directly to the recipients’ college or university for payment of tuition and fees. Award may also be used for books and needed school supplies upon presentation of receipts to JCEF for reimbursement.
  • About the Scholarship: Established originally in 1984 as the Music Directors Award, the scholarship was an annual award to an outstanding Orchestra student. To allow the fund balance to grow faster with combined earnings, the scholarship was renamed in July of 2012 and funds were merged with the Grants Pass Orchestra Tamura Award.
    • Haruki Tamura, a Japanese foreign exchange student, won the Academic Masters Award for Music in 1985 and donated his $1,000 prize to GPHS Foundation to establish a music scholarship.
    • Gary DeRoest was a long-term outstanding Orchestra Director at GPHS in the 1990’s. This award honors the contributions of both individuals.
